I've just started reading 'The Inner Game of Tennis' and I think many of the inner battles musicians have with themselves are accurately described by it, even though it focuses on sport psychology and not music. I must re-read The Inner Game of Music again at some point, and I agree it is excellent. But unlike books like The Inner Game of Music or Effortless Mastery, this book is a parable, or a story which teaches a lesson. And I was also delighted to find that there is a book called “The Inner Game of Music”, written by musician Barry Green in collaboration with the great Tim Gallwey, the tennis coach who first wrote about the Inner Game. Lately I've poking around "The Inner Game of Tennis" material spawned years ago by Tim Gallwey. I struggled with stage fright for a long time, but one thing that really helped me was a book called the Inner Game of Music. Barry Green, author of the book 'The Mastery of Music-Ten Pathways to True and the Inner Game of Music, eloquently expands on the concept encouraged by David Darling, “Sing what you play, Play what you Sing”. I had lunch with Timothy Gallwey last week; Tim has written many books tackling the issue of 'performance', such as 'The Inner Game of Tennis' and 'The Inner Game of Music'.
